Dear Canterbury families and friends,
Canterbury Elementary School is an exciting place to learn for students and staff. We pride ourselves on strong reading and math instruction for all students and the use of extensive data to provide interventions for those who are struggling or may excel in a particular area. Our Rate of Improvement measure, exceeded the national norms in every grade level this year. Rate of Improvement is a measure of how many new words a student learns each week. For the 2015-16 school year, we have adopted a new science curriculum and also look forward to increasing our knowledge around math instruction. Last year we introduced a new Math Interventionist and realized significant improvements in how math was taught and students excitement for the subject.
During the school year we will have a number of exciting activities for parents to join us in here at Canterbury. We have a strong PTO organization and our ATP committee works with parents to help organize our Open House event. We will have opportunities for students to showcase their academic growth, as well as fun events for the whole family. You will see a number of opportunities for volunteering at Canterbury and these are usually communicated through the PTO and Signup-Genius. We can not hold the number of events that we do each year without your help, so please get involved.
Through the efforts of a strong professional staff, committed families, and students eager to learn, we will continue to offer a comprehensive elementary education for all students. Our PBIS program guides our efforts in promoting positive behaviors in the building that are often an asset at home as well.
Mike Mullen, Principal
